What happens at the clinic, and what happens at the hospital
At RV Clinic Madipakkam and RV Clinic Thalambur: consultation, examination, pregnancy check-ups and scans, blood test requests, treatment plans, medicines, follow-up visits, and minor procedures such as a Pap smear or copper-T insertion. Nothing that needs anaesthesia, and nothing that needs you to stay overnight.
At Unittas Multispeciality Hospital: normal delivery and caesarean section, hysterectomy (abdominal and vaginal), removal of fibroids (myomectomy) and ovarian cysts (cystectomy), including keyhole surgery, ectopic pregnancy surgery, pelvic reconstruction for prolapse, sterilisation, gynaecological cancer surgery, hysteroscopy and colposcopy. Dr. Ragavi performs each of these herself, with the hospital's anaesthetist and theatre team.
Clinic, not hospital
RV Clinic is an outpatient clinic. Surgical procedures and deliveries are carried out at an affiliated licensed hospital.
Sex determination of the foetus is not done at RV Clinic, and no scan report here will state it. It is a punishable offence under the PCPNDT Act, 1994.
How admission for surgery works
The usual sequence, from the first consultation to the follow-up visit.
- Consultation at the clinic. Dr. Ragavi makes the diagnosis, explains the operation, the alternatives, the risks and the recovery, and you decide together. A second visit to think it over is normal.
- Date fixed. She fixes the date with you and the hospital. If you are using cashless insurance, pre-authorisation starts now, so share your policy details early.
- Pre-operative tests. Blood tests, an ECG and an anaesthetist's check a few days before, with a physician's opinion added if you have sugar, BP or a heart condition.
- Admission at Unittas Multispeciality Hospital. Usually the evening before or the morning of the operation. Bring all reports, your medicines, ID proof, the insurance card and one attender.
- She operates. Dr. Ragavi performs the operation herself, after the consent form is signed at the hospital and the operation explained to you again.
- Recovery and discharge. The stay depends on the operation: a day or two after keyhole surgery, a few days after an open operation or a caesarean. You go home with a discharge summary, medicines and wound-care instructions.
- Follow-up at the clinic. The first review is at Madipakkam or Thalambur, whichever is closer, for the wound check, any biopsy result and advice on getting back to work.
For deliveries
Antenatal check-ups happen at the clinic; the pregnancy care page has the visit schedule, and high-risk pregnancy care explains what changes with sugar, BP or twins. In the last three months you register at Unittas Multispeciality Hospital, so your file is ready before labour starts. When labour begins, or if there is bleeding or reduced baby movements, you go straight to the hospital and call the number you were given. Dr. Ragavi conducts normal deliveries and caesarean sections there herself. Six weeks after the delivery you return to the clinic for the postnatal review.

Frequently asked questions
Does my insurance work, and is it cashless?
Insurance applies to the hospital part: the surgery or delivery at Unittas Multispeciality Hospital. Whether it is cashless or reimbursed depends on your policy and the hospital's tie-up with your insurer, confirmed during pre-authorisation. Consultations, scans and tests at the clinic are outpatient and paid directly.
Who actually does the operation?
Dr. Ragavi. She does not hand her cases to another surgeon. The hospital provides the anaesthetist, the theatre staff and the nursing; she performs the operation and reviews you after it.
Can I choose a different hospital?
Tell her at the consultation. She operates at Unittas Multispeciality Hospital, where she can look after you before and after the operation. If your insurance or your family prefers another hospital, say so early and she will tell you plainly what is possible.
What if there is an emergency at night?
RV Clinic cannot treat emergencies; the clinics are outpatient and closed at night. If you are pregnant or have had surgery recently and something is wrong, go straight to the hospital emergency department using the instructions you were given, and inform the clinic afterwards. If you are far from the affiliated hospital, the nearest emergency department comes first.
What are the visiting hours, and can my family stay?
Visiting hours, the number of attenders allowed and the room options are set by the hospital, not the clinic, and change from time to time. Confirm them with Unittas Multispeciality Hospital once your admission date is fixed; the clinic staff can tell you whom to ask.
